Please consider making a submission to the Inquiry into the Road Safety Road Rules 2009 (Overtaking Bicycles) Bill 2015 now being considered in the Victoria Parliament. Full information is below. The deadline for submissions is April 1st.

As you may be aware, the Economy and Infrastructure Committee is inquiring into proposed legislation relating
to minimum distances when overtaking bicycles.

Bike rider focus group on TravelSmart maps - free lock or light for all participants

Darebin is working with a number of Melbourne councils (City of Melbourne, Yarra, Boroondara, Port Phillip and Moreland) to evaluate the TravelSmart maps. As part of this review, focus groups will be held with various map users including students, people that cycle, public transport users and walkers as well as older adults and people with mobility aids.

A focus group for people that cycle will be held at Northcote Town Hall at 6pm on Thursday 26 November (see attached for details). All participants get a free quality bike lock or set of bike lights!

Ride2Work Day breakfasts

14th October is Ride2Work Day. As part of this the City of Darebin has six public breakfasts you can ride along to:

Bike Skills Sessions

The next round of bike skills sessions run by Darebin Council are about to kick off. There are a range of courses to cater for different levels:

This beginner course will improve your skills and confidence and teach you strategies for riding safely. In a traffic free area learn about bike control, stopping, turning and gears.
Course dates: 12 Sept, 11 Oct, 7 Nov.

Support for Darebin Workplaces to hold a Ride to Work Day Breakfast

Council is supporting Darebin organisations to hold Ride to Work Day breakfasts at their workplace on Wednesday 14 October 2015. We can provide materials to help promote the event along with fruit boxes and giveaway prizes such as bike lights and bells. Participating workplaces will also go in the draw to win new bike parking at for their workplace!

Darebin Bicycle User Group

Darebin BUG is one of Melbourne's largest and most active cycling groups. We campaign for better cycling conditions and run a range of rides to suit cyclists of all abilities.


We work with Council and State government agencies to improve cycling infrastructure and conditions in Darebin.
