Saturday rides (Sea Cruise) (Slow and social)
These rides are best suited to beginners, or those returning to cycling.
Saturday rides follow a standard route starting outside Rushall station, North Fitzroy to Port Melbourne at an easy pace and along bike paths and bike lanes. At Beacon Cove riders stop and enjoy a coffee and chat.
Starting time is 9:30am and the aim is to return by 1:30pm
Ride distance is 30km
Ride speed approximately 12 km/h

Midweek rides (Tuesday and Thursday)
These rides are longer and follow variety of routes.
Most of the rides listed include the riding distance so it is possible to determine if you think it is suitable.

Midweek rides start from the Jika Jika Community Centre corner of Plant St and Union St, Westgarth on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Starting time 9.00 am, for the January to March rides and 9.30 am for the rest of the year unless stated in the ride description (and shown in red in the pdf file)
Ride distance is generally 30 – 60 km with occasional longer rides
Finish time is around 3-4 pm depending on the ride distance
Ride surface. Most riding is on bike paths or occasionally roads with bike lanes. Some surfaces include gravel or toppings
Bicycle type: All types of bikes are suitable.
Riding speed. The average speed is roughly 16 km/h but with regular stops for regrouping. It is BUG policy to leave no one behind on these rides.
Refreshments: Rides stop for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Riders generally bring morning tea and lunch while the afternoon stop generally includes a coffee shop.
Safety: A first aid kit is carried on the rides.
All rides have a leader and tail.

Temperatures and riding
- Up to 30oC The programmed ride will go ahead
- 30 – 35oC The programmed ride may go ahead but may be altered
- Over 35oC There will be no “official” ride but any riders still wishing to ride can turn up at at the starting point to meet up with like-minded riders.
Weekend rides
From time to time the BUG organises weekend or long weekend rides of several days duration, usually along rail trails and staying at a hotels or other accommodation. These rides usually average about 50-60km per day.
